Nevada IRS Office Locations and Appointment Scheduling Tips

If you have received a letter from the IRS notifying you that you are being audited, or if you have another tax issue that needs more in-person discussion rather than trying to navigate the maze of emails and phone calls that are routed through department after department, you may want to visit an IRS office in person. In Nevada, there are two IRS offices – one in Las Vegas and one in Reno.

The Las Vegas office is located at:

110 City Parkway
Las Vegas, NV 89106

The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can call (702) 868-5005 for office information, or you can call (844) 545-5640 to make an appointment. The office provides services such as account inquiries, adjustments, questions on tax laws and changes, procedural inquiries, and solutions for tax issues. The office provides basic tax law assistance, but don’t expect them to do your taxes for you. The office also provides Facilitated Self Assistance, which provides a computer kiosk with help from an office employee to navigate the IRS website.
The other Nevada office ios in Reno. It is located at:

300 Booth Street, Suite 2016
Reno, NV 89509

The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed every day for lunch between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. You can call (775) 824-2218 for office information, or you can call (844) 545-5640 to make an appointment. The office provides the same basic services as the Las Vegas office, in addition to helping with making payment arrangements, questions about individual taxpayer identification numbers and form W-7, and providing tax forms. The office does not provide the Facilitated Self Assistance that the Las Vegas office offers.

You can only visit these offices by appointment, and appointments can be hard to get – especially around tax time. Here are a few tips for scheduling your appointment:

Call in Advance

The closer we get to the tax deadline – April 15 most years – the more people are going to be calling to try to make appointments. If you are one of them, you shouldn’t expect to have an easy time getting an appointment. You may not even be able to get an appointment at all.

Give yourself plenty of time to get the appointment you need. We’re talking weeks, if not months. If you aren’t able to get the appointment you need by the deadline, just call the toll-free number to request an extension.

Ask for an Off-Peak Time

Many people are likely to try to schedule appointments around their lunch time or at the very beginning or end of the day. These are the times that will be easier for them to fit the appointment into their work day. If you try to get an appointment during one of those times, you will have a harder time.

Ask for an appointment during an off-peak time. If you don’t know what that is, just ask. The more flexible you are with your availability, the more likely you are to be able to get an appointment sooner rather than later.

Skip the Appointment

Why bother trying to make an appointment when you skip the hassle entirely? Just about every issue that you can get help with at a local office you can get help with over the phone, and many, many more representatives are available by phone. You can also deal with most issues online, and you can get forms to download and print off online.

If you need more intensive help or advice, you would be better off visiting a tax lawyer. You can get answers about tax law, as well as your rights and responsibilities, and you can get help if you are being audited or facing another tax issue.
